The Story
The game’s story focuses on Kirby, along with his partner Elline, who must travel through a forgotten land of monsters to restore Elline’s lost memory. The game introduces a new Kirby series mechanic in which, when an enemy is inhaled by Kirby, he copies its abilities; it also features returning elements from previous games including dash-dancing (which returns from Kirby's Return to Dream Land) and full 3D movement (which returns from ).
The Levels
Overall, Kirby and The Forgotten Land is a surprisingly addicting game. I was honestly surprised by how interesting it was when you got into the levels. The side-scrolling mechanics were simple enough to get through, and seeing Kirby transform into new forms really kept me interested throughout. If you’re looking for a game to kill some time with on your Nintendo Switch, then Kirby And The Forgotten Land may be just what you’re looking for!
The Bosses
Kirby always had an interesting twist when it came to bosses. Each world has a main boss at end of it, but you also have to clear 7 mini-bosses within each world. In Kirby and The Forgotten Land, each boss is unique in their own way. There's no set pattern for beating them all, which makes them fun to challenge yourself with every time you play through!
The Characters
Kirby is a beloved platforming character. Even though he’s been around for decades, Nintendo still continues to create new ways to make Kirby more interesting. In Kirby and The Forgotten Land, Kirby can use his long-forgotten friend’s signature items such as Rick’s Sword or Kine’s Water Gun while traveling through levels that are reminiscent of forgotten old classics from past Kirby games. This twist on familiar game mechanics adds an exciting spin on classic gameplay.
The Cutscenes
Kirby and The Forgotten Lands is a pretty good game, honestly. I wouldn’t say it’s Kirby’s best, but it holds its own against similar games. It has some of that classic Kirby spirit to it, with all sorts of enemies to face off against. Some moments might be a little cheap (I had trouble with those level bosses), but they keep you on your toes when you play. If you like Kirby, or are looking for something new in platformers, give Kirby and The Forgotten Lands a try! You won’t regret it!
The Ending
Kirby and crew have reached their final goal. The dark world is free of nightmares, Sir-Slash-A Lot’s title as king is never challenged again, Kirby gets to go back home to Pop Star (though it’s a little more crowded now that Dreamland has been built on top of it), and everyone lives happily ever after. At least... I think they do?
