Gotham Knights game preview
Gotham Knights is an upcoming action role-playing video game developed by WB Games Montréal and published by Warner Bros. Scheduled to be released on October 1, 2016, Gotham Knights will be the first game in the Arkham series without developer Rocksteady Studios attached. In it, players assume the role of Batman as he tries to thwart Scarecrow’s scheme to bring fear to Gotham City. This preview will focus on Scarecrow’s new fear toxin and how it affects Batman’s abilities in combat, movement, and exploration throughout the game.
What is it?
An action role-playing video game (RPG) set in a fictionalized, modernized version of DC Comics' Batman universe. The player controls one of two protagonists: billionaire Bruce Wayne and high-level vigilante Batman. Gameplay features encounters with enemies followed by a quick time event in which the player character attacks or counters.
When will it be released?
Gotham Knights is scheduled to be released in late October 2013. It will be available for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Windows PC.
What platforms will it be available on?
PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The developers haven’t yet announced when it will be released.
What are the features?
Every action RPG should have a set of features to make it stand out from its competitors. In Gotham Knights, players will be able to explore three different cities: Metropolis, Giza and Gotham City. Although each city has its own set of missions, players will also be able to travel between them via teleportation devices placed at specific locations. Each city can be further explored using Batman's batwing vehicle, which is available for use after completing a few side quests. Players can also take part in Catwoman's missions by visiting her in her hideout once she joins their cause.
How do you start playing?
The first thing you’ll want to do when you start playing is select a hero. Gotham Knights lets you choose from five playable characters, each with their own distinct abilities and attributes. There’s Sherlock Holmes, Batgirl, The Flash, Poison Ivy and last but not least, Superman. Once you’ve selected your hero of choice, you can begin exploring Gotham City via glider or by foot! As players progress through Gotham Knights they will be tasked with completing quests which include taking out bad guys as well as rescuing hostages who are trapped in buildings around town. As if that wasn’t enough excitement already...there are also numerous super villains on patrol at all times throughout Gotham City such as The Joker and Penguin!
How does the gameplay work?
Gotham Knights is a 3rd person action role-playing video game featuring Batman as the player character. The game is set in an open world environment and offers a more old school experience, since both exploration and progression will be more difficult than in most of today’s AAA titles. Combat is similar to that seen in previous Rocksteady games: with free-flow style combat, where combos are performed by different combinations of attacks or counterattacks.
What are the different in-game elements such as characters, villains, and locations?
The game will feature two unique player characters. Batman and Superman are highly athletic, fight with grace, strength, and skill; they’re both experts at hand-to-hand combat and can use a variety of weapons ranging from batarangs to machine guns. The upcoming Gotham Knights video game is based on these iconic DC Comics characters. Players control either Batman or Superman as they fight their way through a number of amazing locations in Gotham City such as Arkham Asylum, Wayne Manor, and Metropolis.
How about the storyline?
Set in a world inspired by classic Batman comics and films, Gotham Knights lets players become both Bruce Wayne and his superhero alter ego. As Wayne, players will enjoy a deep storyline that reveals why their hero became Batman in addition to exploring classic locations such as Wayne Manor and patrolling the city for signs of trouble. As Batman, players will utilize their core combat skills plus gadgets like batarangs and grappling hooks to take down enemies.
